Description

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a myocardial disorder primarily affecting dogs, but occasionally cats, characterised by reduced systolic function and ventricular dilatation. This session will review the key features of DCM and its clinical presentation, along with the main differential diagnoses that should be considered and potentially uncovered in your daily routine. Emphasis will be placed on what can be identified in the first opinion setting by physical examination, chest radiographs, ECG and focused cardiac ultrasound. Comparisons with other common cardiac pathologies will be made, the most common breeds and their manifestations will be illustrated, and the main therapeutic approaches will be discussed.
