Emma qualified from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2004 and worked in small animal practice for 19 years. She joined the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) in 2019 working part time in the Membership team whilst continuing to work in practice as a locum veterinary surgeon. In 2023 she was appointed the role of Veterinary Risk Manager in the Underwriting team.

Emma is a Trustee for the veterinary charity Vetlife and sits on BVA Scotland branch as a volunteer general counsellor.
