Addisonian crisis. When the “great pretender” means business.  Ah, how many interesting hours has hypoadrenocorticism given us in veterinary medicine over the last couple of years? Is it Addisons? Have you done an ACTH stim test? Perhaps it’s “unusual” Addisons? Questions over questions. Thanks to new therapeutic approaches we are getting better and better at managing these patients. Nevertheless, encountering a patient in true crisis can still be challenging, but then again super exciting and very satisfactory, if we focus on the underlying cause and counteract accordingly.

• Identify patients in Addisonian crisis and distinguish them from patients with acute kidney injury (renal failure).

• Learn how to transition the crisis patient to a “chronic patient” for successful discharge home.
